LSCI is trauma-informed care in action! Alex Cameron, Director of Clinical Services, Pressley Ridge

LSCI 201 is a 1-day Introduction to LSCI training that teaches the foundational skills of reaching out to young people during conflict and turning problem situations into learning opportunities. Participants learn:

1. Key differences in the psychological worlds of adults and kids that often lead to conflict
2. Specific skills for listening to young people in ways that build trust and cultivate communication
3. The LSCI skills of Drain Off© and Timeline© to de-escalate a young person in crisis and help that young person put language to emotion, leading to insights and long-term behavioral change

Here’s what professionals from KidsPeace National Centers in PA said about their recent LSCI 201 training:

The information received today is so valuable to me because I will be able to perform my job as a Counselor in the facility. The videos were so helpful because they open my eyes to the reality of the work that I will be involved in daily at KidsPeace.

I learned how to calm down a child who is upset/potentially out of control– key is listening, being supportive, and providing the child the opportunity to have their voice heard and talk it out without being judged. This is to help diffuse a potentially dangerous conflict that may go off at any moment, especially if the child feels they’re not being understood and things escalate. As a whole, if used properly, LSCI can help to break the cycle of conflict.

I definitely will listen a lot more, leave pauses and time for reflection (not only at KidsPeace, but dealing with any potential conflict in the future), and will be sure to recognize the cycle of conflict. Before this course, I was not very aware of this, and I probably have said/done a lot of things that only added to the frustration of the individual, but I am hoping that this course will have a positive impact on my conflict management skills.

I want to complete the entire course!

Jessica is AMAZING!! The course was both very engaging, hands-on, and AWESOME! It was a lot of material to cover, but she was able to construe everything in a way that was both understandable and downright funny as well. I don’t usually do well sitting in a place for a long period of time (I’m a bit hyperactive, sorry!) but today was no problem at all! I would definitely recommend Jess to anyone interested in taking this training, and I wish she was doing the rest of my trainings! Thanks, Jess!! 🙂
