“Healing Room” for Adults Established by LSCI Trainers in Georgia

Check out how LSCI Trainers at one of our National Training Sites are spearheading this healing space that recognizes and cares for the needs of educators. The better we take care of ourselves, the better we take care of our young people.
Thank you, Lisa Futch, for sharing about your amazing work:
Educators at Coastal Academy GNETS who have experienced trauma either directly or vicariously as well as experiencing burnout may take advantage of our Healing Room for self-regulation and relaxation. Because educators in general can be exposed to primary and secondary traumatic stress which could lead to interpersonal challenges as well as affect their ability to teach, our goal through the use of this room is to strengthen our staff’s psychological, emotional, and social well-being. Each room has a set of posted procedures which are differentiated for the faculty body as well as the location. Moreover, the staff may access these rooms any time of the school day and take advantage of the following strategies: journaling, mediation, exercise, Zen Sand Garden, music, snacks, drinks, aromatherapy, coloring, or simply, grounding oneself. Staff can also request to speak to someone for debriefing. When this room is used, a member of the Compassion Team is notified so that a Plan of Connection can be established if needed. This plan provides information on the incident, identifies possible additional supports, and determines a schedule for members to reach out to the staff member throughout the week. The Compassion Team, also, determines when this plan will end. In doing so, we reinforce the idea that people heal people.
