LSCI is trauma-informed care in action! Alex Cameron, Director of Clinical Services, Pressley Ridge

The LSCI Institute was excited to establish a new National Training Site at the Broome-Tioga BOCES in New York earlier this year. Here’s what participants are saying about their experiences completing LSCI Certification training with new Senior Trainers, Amy Wallick, Sue Jones& Ashley DeMarco:

Our trainers were excellent! They were knowledgeable about the content & how it relates to the population we serve.
The trainers did a great job in bringing positive energy to the material.
Our 3 trainers were very professional and knowledgeable creating a straightforward and comfortable way to learn.

Describe the significant learnings you are taking away from this course:
Techniques to help uncover the root of a childs stress.
Effective questioning and the importance of student led interventions guided by a helpful adult.
I will be able to better assist students in crisis.
The learning I am taking away from this training is that establishing the Timeline is extremely important to fully understand the student and what the emotions/motivations are.
How each students history causes them to respond differently and how we can adjust our approach to them and their crisis.
This course will give me a set of tools that I can use to keep more students in the game. They may be able to help with behaviors that were previously mysterious and seemed impossible to address effectively.

How do you see yourself using the information and skills you’ve attained?
All the time. Even outside of the classroom.
Daily with students to help them learn and understand their emotions
Daily, with my students that struggle with emotions and behavior choices.
I plan on having more informed conversations with my students and working more to stay out of the conflict cycle.
Now I have a new set of ways to approach a student in crisis.
I feel that it could help my team mates and me to develop a culture and language that can be used to reach more of our students who struggle.
